RUN TOUR WRITER.

THE ROLE.

 Running, researching and writing a new tour for Run of a Kind Birmingham.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR.

  • Someone who enjoys researching and writing independently;

  • Ability to write creatively in our unique tone of voice (cue, one or ten running puns) to create an engaging tour;

  • Vision to pluck the most interesting facts from a breath of research and use them to create a narrative (we tell exciting & inspiring stories on our themed tours, not basic disjointed facts about landmarks);

  • You don't need to be a historian or know everything about the tour topic area already (you will by the end of your project!) just be excited to learn;

  • Bring your personality, love for Birmingham and personal experiences to your writing;

  • A keen runner who runs and walks in Birmingham regularly, and will understand how other runners will feel taking part in their tour;

  • Knowing and being involved with the running community in Birmingham really helps, as does being a tourist!

  • Prehand knowledge of a subject area, theme and route will help but isn’t essential (we’ve got plenty of ideas already!).

WHAT DO YOU GET IN RETURN?

  • An opportunity to take ownership of your own passion project with guidance from Lucy the Founder who has created 3 successful running tours and has a breath of experience;

  • Expand your network in Birmingham through working with tour guest speakers, local business owners or charity partners;

  • Direct public feedback and sales evidence from your event to show future employers;

  • The opportunity to be involved with an exciting startup company from the beginning as well as the up-and-coming running tour industry;

  • Do things you love (and that don’t feel like work) – running, exploring and learning more about Birmingham;

  • Free running tours and merch for you, discount for your family and friends;

  • Work as part of a positive, open and close-knit team;

  • Opportunity for future work of this kind, or other roles with us. This position has a natural progression to the Running Tour Guide role.

HOURS.

● Completely flexible! You will work towards an agreed deadline for launch.

PAY & BENEFITS.

● You are employed on a freelance basis;

● Payment of £100+ per complete tour written;

● 1 item of merch of your choice. Check out our apparel here.

● Any additional responsibilities taken on additional pay will to be agreed upon – we’d love your suggestions of how you can contribute to the business.

DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

  • Play a key role in launching the running tour event in Birmingham, feeding into Marketing Strategy and Event Planning;

  • Possible progression onto the paid Tour Guide Role, leading the tour you’ve created (if you’ve got what it takes to be a Run of a Kind Guide);

  • The opportunity to pass on your knowledge and train new guides in future;

  • Paid freelance tour writing for future tours in Birmingham or other cities;

  • We will always consider any other ideas you have for your own personal development which will drive the success of Run of a Kind.

TRAINING.

GET SET.

  • Attend one of our running tours to experience the heart of what we do and get inspired for the tour you’ll write;

  • Induction to learn everything there is to know about our business and brand;

  • Planning to set you up to create your own tour and work independently.

GO.

  • Market research to decide which running tour you will create based on what our community would like next;

  • Research including both reading and running!;

  • Hone in your research to write the script;

  • Test run with Lucy for feedback to finalise the tour;

  • Produce training materials for the tour for other guides to learn independently alongside the full written script (such as a bullet point reference guide, tour stop podcasts and extra reading materials).
