RUNNING TOUR FAQS

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

You, in trainers, your running gear, wearing a big smile, and not much else! Water is a good idea if you usually take it running and to sip as you go/when we stop. Please dress for the weather of the day, so suncream, sunnies and hat if it's a scorcher or a rain jacket/hat if showers are expected (if it pours we'll soon find a spot for shelter!) More on weather to come...

WHERE CAN I LEAVE MY THINGS?

We have Bag Drop venues for each of our tours. You will receive specific information on this on your confirmation email after you book.

WHAT IF IT RAINS?

We're no fairweather runners, we run all year round come rain or shine. Scheduled run tours will only be cancelled during severe weather conditions including but not limited to severe local flood warnings, thunder/hail storms, heavy snow or dangerously icy conditions. You will be contacted with as much notice as we possibly can, with credit or refund options to suit.

LET'S TALK PACE.

Leisurely and enjoyable. Our running tour experiences are centered around the things you’ll see, facts you’ll learn and the lovely people you'll meet rather than racing. We’ll leave the latter in the capable hands of race organisers, your personal trainer or running club.

BUT HOW FAST EXACTLY?

If you want numbers, here are some examples from our public group running tours:

STREET ART 5KM: This is for complete beginner runners and we do not have a minimum pace.

STREET ART 8KM & LEAFY BRUM 10KM: You should be comfortable running 2km without stopping.

BEST OF BIRMINGHAM 12KM: You’ll need to be able to complete 10km in 75 minutes (7.5 minute/km pace).

Please bear in mind that our tours contain frequent stops, so you will most likely be able to run further and faster with us than you would on your usual run. We offer plenty of distractions on our running tours too, so you’ll most likely forget about those pesky splits and stats.

We offer our tours privately to individuals or your group. This way you can be assured that the pace will be yours.

Please never let your pace hold you back from booking and drop us a message if you’re worried.

HOW DO YOU MANAGE RUNNERS OF DIFFERING ABILITIES?

We know that trying to keep up or being held back isn't fun for anyone. Please see the guide pace above. Our policy is always: we run together, no one gets left behind. We will be offering scheduled group running tours of differing pace groups in future.

I'M A NEW RUNNER, IS IT FOR ME?

Did you discover the joy of running during lockdown? We’re so glad you’ve joined the club! Not confident enough to join a running club quite yet? Join one of our fun tours with plenty of stops to get a few more runs under your belt in a supportive environment. Our tours are a fun way to get into running and embrace all of its benefits, with a lot of distractions from the distance. Our tours contain frequent stops and we never leave anyone behind.

I'M A SEASONED RUNNER, IS IT FOR ME?

Our tours aren't designed for you to break your PB. We also know that you book a running as opposed to a walking tour for a reason so we aim to meet your exercise needs alongside the tour part of the run.

Want to go fast? Book a private tour for you or your group of fast friends. That way we can assure you'll finish with a beating heart both in your chest and for the city.

I WANT TO RUN WITH YOU BUT I’M STILL CONCERNED ABOUT MY PACE.

We can offer our tours privately to individuals or your group. This way you can be assured that the pace will be yours. Please never let your pace hold you back from booking and drop us a message if you’re worried.

HOW BIG ARE THE GROUPS?

We can take up to 12 runners per Guide on our Running Tours, and 25 per Guide on Walking Tours.

Running is free so why should I pay for it?

Here at Run of a Kind we want to enrich your run. We’ll provide you with things to see and think about, adding depth with our fun facts. We promise you a unique running experience that'll be much different to your typical run. For your ticket price you get an end of tour treat, tour guide, running host and photographer in one, plus the chance to meet other like minded runners and have a post-run social. So we think it’s a pretty good deal.

WHAT IF I NEED THE LOO?!

Unfortunately due to time constraints and the outdoor nature of our activity, there are no scheduled toilet stops. We will be able to source somewhere if you get desperate, but please be mindful of your own bladder in preparation for and during the run!
